I was born and raised in Wilmington Delaware. I attended a local High School and after graduating went to college in Ohio where I received a BFA.
I moved to Cincinnati Ohio after college where I longed to know God more. In July of 1981 God filled me with the Holy Ghost and I have been a part of the True Holiness Assemblies of Truth United Inc. congregations for over 30 years.
I was called to the ministry in 1991 and during a service in the early 1990’s the Lord told me to return to Delaware and establish. The word from the Lord was also confirmed by my early Overseer, Bishop Eddita Tolber. The word from the Lord was for an appointed time. I was ordained an Evangelist in 1995 and years later in 1999 I was ordained and elder.
It was also in 1999 that I was wed to Calvin Phillips. My husband is truly a godly man. Some years prior to meeting him, as I was praying I asked the Lord for a husband that would love Him and would love me. God is true to his word! He gave me a husband that loves Him with all his heart and has truly shown me what real love is. God has given me a wonderful overseer of our home. He is a man who is diligent in watching over and providing for our family. Together we have a son, Calvin, who he is raising to follow in his footsteps and teaching him the importance of serving God and being a good leader in the community and in his own home when he has a family.
In 2010, I was appointed a Suffragan Bishop. A Suffragan Bishop is an elder who is elected or appointed, by our central organization’s Board of Bishops, as a subordinate to a senior bishop and is given administrative and episcopal responsibilities, but does not preside over a ecclesiastical jurisdiction. This position is appointed with an expected range of responsibilities that are beyond the local church.
I ministered in a variety of ways over the years in Cincinnati. I ministered to guests in a Homeless program where as part of a group, we provided food to families and activities for the children along with small personal care items. Through those opportunities I was also able to delivering God's message of hope one on one to those who needed comfort. Matt 25:35 says, "For I was an hungered, and ye gave me meat:". Philippians 2:4 says, " Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others."
I participated in the prison ministry with one of the organization’s sister churches on a few occasions. We went into a few of the local incarceration centers for men and women where we sang songs and preached the Gospel to the inmates. Mat 25:36 says. "I was in prison, and ye came unto me."
I was also fortunate to be able to touch peoples lives in my capacity as a service facilitator/case manager with the Hamilton County Board of Developmental Disability Services. Through my time with the agency, the Lord taught me how to serve individuals and there families. At times I provided resources for community helps, advocacy, a listening ear and the ability to provide emotional support and comfort. I thank God for that opportunity because I saw the hand of God in uses my experiences on my job as a tool in molding me for pastoring. What a mighty God we serve! I brought the knowledge and resources I learned about in my employment to the church. We were able to use that information to help people in the Walnut Hills area from time to time
My husband, son and I were part of a wonderful community outreach through our Sunday School Department called Kids4Christ Puppet Ministry. We held a community one day event during the summer for children in the area. We provided small carnival games with prizes, snacks and our main event which was a puppet show center around topics like saying no to drugs, good character and watching out for stranger danger. Through that outreach some of the children came to Sunday School. (see our Puppet Ministry page for pictures)
I am an instructor in our organization's "Leadership Development Institute" located in Cincinnati, Ohio. While it is true that I am no longer living in Cincinnati, Ohio, we thank God for the modern technology of Oovoo which allows us to teach over the miles. I used this same technology in teaching a Bible Study long distance while still living in Cincinnati to a student living in Delaware and the other in New Jersey, it is a very effective tool.
When God opened a door for our family to move to Delaware he opened a large door. God provided jobs in our field and housing, it was miraculous! It was truly above anything we could ask or think. He did it! The Lord is blessing us as group of believers in amazing ways. Our family is here in Jesus name and we are excited about the future that God has prepared for us and the church.
We have an outreach ministry call "Mission Hope Outreach Ministries" and have been incorporated under of our parent organization with a 501(c)3 non-profit status. (please visit our Mission Hope Outreach Ministry page)
I am also a song writer in our organization's "True Holiness Covenant of Peace Assemblies of Truth United Mass Choir."
