In this week's lesson Jesus talks about a righteous man and a wicked man. The rich man was wicked because he thought only of himself and his friends. The poor man's named was Lazarus and he was a beggar. The rich man had fine clothes and lots of food. Lazarus was laid at the gate of the rich man every day where he would ask for crumbs that fell from the rich man's table. The rich man never took pity on poor Lazarus, he never showed him any kindness. The only kindness identified came from the dogs who licked his wounds. Finally they both died and in death as in life, their ends were really different. Lazarus was carried by the angels to a place of rest and peace, "Abraham's bosom", while the rich man lifted up his eyes in hell. The rich man was reminded, "Son, remember that thou in thy lifetime receivedst thy good things, and likewise Lazarus evil things: but now he is comforted, and thou art tormented." Abraham's Bosom was the place of peace and comfort, where all those who died waiting on the promise of God rested prior to the redemptive work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. By his death, burial and resurrection Christ gives eternal life to all who believe. It is a fact, how we live our lives and what we believe will determine our end. "For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting." Galatians 6:8 "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life." John 5:24
