Have you ever admire someone so much that you thought, I want to be just like them when I grow up? Someone special like your parent(s), a teacher, a big brother or sister? Our lesson today begins with Elijah the prophet and his close student Elisha. God gave Elijah a special student that would be close to him and would follow in his footsteps. Elisha understood just how special their relationship was and how special his teacher and mentor was in God. (A mentor is a person who gives a younger or less experienced person help and advice over a period of time.) Elisha followed Elijah and helped him during part of his ministry to Israel. Elijah prophesied and worked many miracles in Israel. God used him in demonstration and power and Elisha his helper was right there. One day God told Elijah that he would be leaving earth in a special way. As Elijah traveled to different cities he told Elisha to stay there while he went to the next city but Elisha said he would not leave Elijah. Finally when it was time for Elijah to leave, he asked Elisha what can I do for you before I go? Elisha asked for a double portion of Elijah's special anointing, he wanted Elijah's power from God. Elijah said if you are with me when I go, you may have it. Along the way a chariot of fire and horses of fire came down between Elijah and Elisha. Elijah was taken into heaven alive by a whirlwind and as he went up he dropped his mantel (coat) back down to Elisha. The mantle represented the special anointing of God. Something to think about.???? Like Elisha the student, God wants to use us. When we pray, we must ask God to use us in our homes, in our schools and in communities. It's not always the big things, it starts with obeying his word and obeying our parents or special role models in our lives. Let God use your life for his glory.
